Gyokeres Off the Mark as Arsenal End Pre-Season with Emirates Cup Triumph

LONDON - Arsenal concluded their pre-season campaign in commanding fashion on Saturday, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Athletic Club to lift the 2025 Emirates Cup trophy. The final tune-up before the Premier League season was a showcase of attacking prowess and defensive solidity, with new signing Viktor Gyokeres stealing the headlines by scoring his first goal for the club.

The Swedish striker, who joined the Gunners from Sporting CP, broke the deadlock in the 34th minute. After a brilliant whipped cross from fellow new signing Martin Zubimendi, Gyokeres rose above his marker to power a header past Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon. The goal sent a wave of excitement through the Emirates Stadium, giving fans a glimpse of what's to come from their new forward.

Arsenal's momentum continued just two minutes later. A fantastic piece of combination play saw Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard carve open the Athletic defense, allowing Bukayo Saka to tap in from close range and double the lead. The quick-fire goals effectively put the game to bed before halftime.

The second half saw Mikel Arteta's side maintain control, with Athletic Club struggling to create any meaningful opportunities. Substitutions allowed Arsenal to manage the game and give minutes to more players, including Noni Madueke, who impressed with his driving runs.

The final goal of the afternoon came in the 82nd minute when Kai Havertz, who had come on as a substitute, latched onto a ball over the top of the defense. The German forward showcased his pace and composure, breaking away from his defender and calmly slotting the ball across the goalkeeper and into the far corner.

The 3-0 victory capped off a pre-season of mixed results for Arsenal but provides a significant confidence boost heading into their Premier League opener against Manchester United. With key new signings making an immediate impact and the team showing a high level of performance, the Gunners appear ready to challenge for top honors in the upcoming season.
